I added the finishing touches to my Happy Halloween quilt this week. This quilt is designed by Amy Bradley and you can read about my progress in earlier posts here.
I hand-stitched the binding to the quilt back over several evenings this week (while watching movies with the family). Once the binding was completed, I then hand-stitched on the button eyes for each character. I still need to create a quilt label and add it to the quilt back.

And, of course, another photo with my outdoor “quilting” cat. He likes to supervise any and all outdoor projects, including the photographing of said projects. In this photo, he had just given his sniff of approval to the quilt!

I hope you’ve enjoyed following my progress on this quilt! I’ve also been working on a Christmas block-of-the-month project from a different designer. I will soon post about that project as it’s nearly complete, but it will be really close if I finish it by this Christmas.

Hi Wendy, I used my Bernina to machine stitch around all the pieces. You can do it by hand, but it will take a bit longer! Do you have a quilting store nearby that sells sewing machines? I recommend going in and do some test stitching on several different machines to see which one feels right to you. Bernina, Viking, Pfaff, Brother, Janome are some good choices. You may be able to get some good holiday deals this time of year!
Thanks! I ended up buying a manual Brother that worked well but didn’t have a buttonhole stitch on it, (needle down, or speed control), so I tried a zigzag stitch and not so good. I went back and got a computerized Brother for $90 more and I literally almost cried I was so happy with it and it had the buttonhole stitch that looks SO much better. Now I have to re-do 3 of my characters! lol Lesson learnt though, you need a very good machine! I’m enjoying this a lot more now 🙂 Your Bernina must have been a small fortune. They seem like very good machines!
Yes, it’s an applique style quilt so the pattern will come with all the necessary diagrams to help you assemble the characters. You’ll need to have the fabric plus a fusible web material (like Heat-n-Bond Lite or Steam-a-Seam2. Have fun making it!
I got the package and have everything fused! You’re right, it’s been a lot of fun! I’m wondering if you hand stitched around all the pattern pieces, or if you used a machine?? I don’t have a machine, was going to buy one, have NO idea which kind to get so wondering if I should just try and hand stitch it? Will probably definitely take me until next Halloween to get it done! lol Any advice would be soooo appreciated!!

Thanks so much for your reply! I think I’m going to give this a go. It’s going to be my first quilt, so I’m hoping the pattern isn’t too difficult? I assume the characters come in the package and the rest of the materials would have to be bought separately?
